Design Team Leader

The enterprise group is responsible for designing and producing marketing collaterals and publications for large corporations and their subsidiaries. It also designs and produces graphics for print and online use.

The design team leader will supervise the design team in providing a range of design, layout and production services for output in print, Web, interactive and presentation materials. He/she will monitor the team and assist in improving the skills and work quality.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Duties: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Design and produce graphic files for output in print, Web or multimedia presentations and lead the design team in work production and completion.
  • Have proficiency in the use of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat, QuarkXpress and Microsoft Office software, particularly PowerPoint, to produce the output files needed. Assist staff in the use of this software.
  • Understand design briefs and job requests and assist project managers in clarifying client/job requirements
  • Understand corporate branding guidelines as required by a job or project. Assist staff in implementing corporate branding guidelines.
  • Conceptualize, visualize and present designs with corresponding rationale.
  • Accept assignments from managers with minimal explanation and be proactive in seeking clarification as appropriate.
  • Provide reasonable time estimates when asked to do so.
  • Lead the design team in completing tasks but negotiate deadlines and priorities when necessary.
  • Lead the design team in meeting tight deadlines amidst changing priorities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients at all stages of production.
  • Check the quality and accuracy of the work produced by the design team.
  • Ensure files are properly named, formatted, saved and archived.
  • Ensure any information or reports required are accomplished accurately and completely and submitted on time.
  • Monitor the work of the team, coach those who need to perform better and mentor the good performers into doing even better.
  • Enforce company policies and rules, guiding the team in understanding the reasons for them.
  • Ensure clear, active communication with everyone on the team and assist the team in seeking clarification or resolution to concerns or issues they may have.
  • Willing to work on a shifting basis and extra hours when necessary to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Willingly accomplish any task assigned when necessary or in the interests of the business.
Education/Experience:

  • BS degree in fine arts or visual communication, or comparable experience gained from a design agency, publishing company or multimedia BPO.
  • At least five years of experience from a design agency, publishing company or multimedia BPO, preferably within the last eight years and two years of which were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Highly skilled in the use of Adobe CS2 (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Acrobat; familiarity with QuarkXpress would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with both Mac OSX and Windows.
  • Experience designing marketing collateral and graphics for print or online use, preferably for large international corporations.
  • Capable of conceptualization, visualization and rationalization for design work.
  • Knowledgeable in prepress work and up-to-date with international design standards and trends.
  • Fine art, illustration and photography skills would be a bonus.
  • Good written and oral English communication skills (Level 8 on a scale from 1 to 10).
  • Good people skills and enjoys teamwork and cross-learning.
  • Eager for learning opportunities to enhance skills and contribution to team.
  • Meticulous, with a high sense of quality and professionalism.
